Stag Off The Hill at the Watermill

OVER 50 people were intrigued, amused and stimulated during two entertaining nights at the Watermill in Aberfeldy at the end of June.

International artist Eric Timms twinned for the events with his Strathtay neighbour and local poet John Ramsay, to share with audiences the fruitful crossover between painting and poetry.

The principals explained their experimental forays into tapping into the Jungian ‘collective consciousness’ through holding a public ideas/inspirations workshop to stimulate poetry output on which a painting could be based. This had been facilitated by the Fearnan Arts Club.

Unfolding the process, and sharing the steps of the procedures that they followed (see Eric right), resulted in unveiling the finished canvas.

On each night this ‘wow’ factor evoked positive audience response - in general and in detail - regarding the elements of the painting, its overall composition and its execution as a finished art work.

A limited edition of 100 prints of what is titled Stag Off The Hill have been produced. On each night one of these, mounted but unframed, was secured in a free draw by an audience member, along with reproductions of the poems upon which the work was grounded.

The original canvas (above), fully framed, is available for purchase and is accompanied by the original manuscripts of the poems in question.

The painter and poet have subsequently been invited to carry out the same exercise outwith the locality. They have also been booked to demonstrate their collaboration at a weekend residential art course to be held at the Fortingall Hotel at the end of September.
