On the 27 November the winners of the 2006 Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children’s Books were announced. The ceremony was held at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, and Patricia Ferguson MSP, the Scottish Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, presented the prizes.
The winners were decided by young people themselves; children from every area of Scotland were involved in the judging, and over 2,800 votes were cast.
In the Picture Book category, Kenneth Steven’s story, ‘The Sea Mice and the Stars’, was runner up.
In the Intermediate category, it was JK Rowling’s latest Harry Potter which won the day. Waterstones will be promoting all the winning books in the run-up to Christmas. |
