Exceptional Exhibition of Modern Print Masters

HAND CRAFTED PRINTS by famed artists Henri Matisse, Henry Moore, Patrick Heron, Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana and several others are to feature in an exceptional exhibition to be launched by The Watermill Gallery in Aberfeldy on 11 November.

Clay work by Pablo Picasso will also be on display

“Long before we conceived The Watermill Gallery, we began collecting artists' prints, in particular St Ives school artists such as Barbara Hepworth," Bookshop and Gallery owner Kevin Ramage explained to Comment.

"Artists' prints are hand-crafted by the artist using techniques including silkscreen, etching and lithograph. Edition sizes are limited, both by design and by the fragility of the process. "Buying prints gave us the opportunity to enjoy works hand-produced by leading artists whose original works were beyond our means."

Last Christmas the Gallery's print exhibition drew widespread acclaim that such a selection and quality of work, normally the preserve of Edinburgh or London, would be on show in the Highlands.

This year Kevin has extended the selection of work by artists from further afield, such as Sam Francis and Robert Indiana from the USA, and Antoni Tapies from Spain.

"At the same time we include prominent figures of post-war British art such as Bridget Riley and very seasonally, Henry Moore's Nativity Scene," he proudly indicated.

“We have just acquired an exciting collection of additional works, including two ceramic pieces by Pablo Picasso and works by Barbara Hepworth and Patrick Heron (Abstract Composition: above)," added Kevin.

He pointed out that the Watermill can now offer interest-free credit on art purchases through the Scottish Arts Council 'Own Art' scheme.
