Jings! Experimental Gallery in Aberfeldy

CREATED to give the undiscovered artists living and working in Highland Perthshire a “window to the world”, a new, ‘bijou’ gallery has been launched in the former ‘Jings’ retail unit in Dunkeld Street, Aberfeldy.
“Over time local artists will be invited to be resident for a month and to display their talents and creative activities to the passers-by and to the travelling visitor,” Eric Timms of Strathtay explained to Comment.

Eric, whose paintings of the Tay and local landscapes are enjoying increasing demand became the first ‘artist-in-action-in-residence’ during the first week in October and he urges the curious, the baffled and the sceptical to drop in on him in his relocated studio on the premises.

'Fun For Profit'
“This is an opportunity for the public to observe an artist at work, have a cuppa and receive some on-the-spot instruction free of charge - if they want. We are hopeful that we can attract local unknown working artists to this venue to follow suit.
“As far as we are concerned the words are ‘fun for profit’ and I am the first guinea pig for the scheme.

"The value to contributing artists of involvement in the ‘Jings’ experiment is that they will pay merely a nominal commission - compared with the 30%/40% levied upon them by any regular art gallery.”
