Publishing 'First' for The Watermill
Vivid descriptions are featured which range from eagles in flight to rabbits playing, from fields of new spring flowers to woodland glades. Written in a very accessible yet informed style, it will appeal to those interested in natural history, Scottish wildlife and countryside as well as visitors to Scotland. Author Lavinia Grant moved with her family to Highland Perthshire in 1965. She subsequently married a Kenyan rancher but has returned every year since. She said: “For four years I lived in Kenmore with my parents and developed the habit of writing illustrated nature notebooks and doing paintings and drawings of the wild animals and plants of the area. It was a way of being immersed in the beauty if the place. “This is a ‘nature study’ in the old-fashioned sense…I hope it may give interest and pleasure to those who enjoy the beauty of wild things and places as I do.” Her previous two books are also richly illustrated studies of nature and natural history. The book launch, where the author will be signing copies, will be at The Watermill on Thursday 22 March, 7.30pm. The launch will be accompanied by an exhibition of original watercolour illustrations from the book at The Watermill Gallery from 8 – 29 March. Six images from the book are also being reproduced as high quality giclee prints, £30 each or £150 for the set of six. Prints (see details opposite) are available from the Gallery. Kevin Ramage, owner of The Watermill said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support an author with local connections in this way. My Highland Perthshire is an absolutely beautiful book and I am sure it will establish itself as a firm favourite with natural history and wildlife enthusiasts across the globe.” Tickets for the launch are free from the bookshop. Signed copies, price £20 can be ordered from The Watermill, Mill Street, Aberfeldy, PH15 2BG, Tel. 01887 822896. The book will also be available from good local booksellers from 2 April.
