Perthshire in Pictures

There are many ‘calendar’ views of Perthshire which are seen so often that one almost becomes inured to the beauty they portray. So it is refreshing to find a book of photographs which contain very few, if any, of these. On the contrary, although they are all ‘eye sweet’ they are also full of character.

Described as a ‘photo essay’ of Perthshire, this book of stunning photographs by Allan Wright was published in August, and would make a very welcome stocking-filler for anyone who knows our area.

The photographs cover all parts of Perthshire, a county Allan describes as ‘undoubtedly the fairest part of Scotland’. Perthshire writer Felicity Martin provides the text, opening with a brief history of the county which helps place the shots in an historical context.

One gets the impression that Allan and Fiona have walked many miles in the county, enabling them to capture it from all angles and in all seasons – and anybody who gets a new take on the Falls of Dochart gets my vote!

‘Perthshire’ is published in paperback at handy size 200mm x 230mm by Lyrical Scotland and, with 120 colour photos in 132 pages at £9.95, is well worth a tenner!
