Talented Local Writers Received Accolade

One of the most striking features of the recent Drama Festival was the number of plays written by local authors.

Anna Hepburn (Price) from Aberfeldy had adapted George Mackay Brown’s short story Five Green Waves and Keith Simpson from Trochry had adapted Kenneth Stevens’ story A Pearl of Great Price.

Lynda Henderson, the adjudicator, was struck by the beautiful, poetic language of both pieces and welcomed the emphasis on storytelling which they exemplified.

Keith had a second play, Kissed By A Princess, performed by Unmasqued Theatre Co. in the Youth category. Bob Davidson from Luncarty had two plays performed, Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! by Atholl Players which came first in the Festival, and Assault Within Tent by BIPS which came third.

All of these five plays were receiving their first public performance at the festival, and will be contestants for The Scott Salver to be awarded at the Scottish Final in Inverness in May.

All Dolled Up by Ian Stewart from Perth has been around for a year or two but has proved to be very popular.

Six plays written by local authors out of fourteen entries is highly unusual and a great tribute to local writing talent.
