Fortingall Art Exhibition Launch

At the launch of the Fortingall Art Exhibition on 3 August the handsome Molteno Hall was packed with mainly local folk and the champagne flowed freely. On view was an outstanding exhibition of original, eye-catching pieces lovingly created by talented artists.
MC Malcolm Appleby passionately vowed in his welcoming speech that these artists “Will maintain the creative atmosphere of this uniquely beautiful corner of Highland Perthshire,” He said: “It’s our land; we will fight those bureaucrats who favour a mundane forest landscape to ensure that we control and preserve this priceless beauty.” And his audience of over 250 souls roared their approval as he pounded his unique crook on the boards of the stage of the Molteno Hall.

Janet Wotherspoon then presented certificates to youngsters who, as part of the Schools’ Challenge, had won scholarships and competitions with their artistic work. She reminded the gathering that Fortingall Art has inaugurated the ‘HeArtland Trail’ lovingly depicted on a handsome pocket sized map and brochure as a guide to the workshops and studios of many of the local exhibitors.
On meeting Sue Hoare, the Secretary of Fortingall Art, she explained how the team of exhibitors and organisers had come together some four years ago, and, with their energy, talent and drive, now seemed set to expand their yearly exhibition.
Judging by what I saw on a rainy Friday evening I’d say give it a few years and it will be bye bye Edinburgh and hello Fortingall and the surrounding area, for there are plans to link Art with Dance, Drama and Music in this uniquely beautiful landscape.
So, who knows what the future will bring but one thing is for certain: today Fortingall Art proved that it is one of the very brightest jewels in the Scottish Crown.
