Watermill’s May Reading Recommendations (May 06)
THE DAYS are turning warmer and some of us might be thinking about getting out and tidying our gardens. One book that does appeal to me is “The Reluctant Gardener” full of handy hints and tips to cut down on the work, and leaving more time for reading.
If you prefer to visit other people’s gardens then “Gardens of Scotland” is the book for you. This title lists over 350 gardens that are open for charity. Scotland’s Gardens Scheme started 75 years ago and benefits a number of charities. This useful little book lists small gardens only open once a year along with larger gardens open seasonally.
Once the garden has been put to right you can relax with some fiction. “All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye” is the latest paperback from Christopher Brookmyre. A dark tale of espionage, intrigue, revenge and domesticity! |

“The Accidental”, the winner of last year’s Whitbread Prize has just been published in paperback. A funny and moving story of the chance encounter between the Smart family and Amber during one summer holiday.
If you have any energy left after the gardening “Bike Scotland” may be of interest. This little book details 40 on and off-road cycle routes, many in Highland Perthshire.
Happy gardening, cycling and reading during May.
